2008 ScheduleThis year's schedule includes: Permaculture Tours at EarthavenA day-long visit to Earthaven with Patricia as your guide. In the morning, a brief introduction to Permaculture principles and how they are applied at Earthaven will be followed by a walking tour, highlighted by talks with Earthaven members about their home or business sites, or other aspects of Earthaven life. Sustainable Life Skills InternshipsSPRING: April 12 through June 15 Living as a part of a collective household at Earthaven Ecovillage, you will practice sustainability in the details of daily life, while gaining Permaculture Design certification. Along with the standard Permaculture curriculum, this internship also includes classes in consensus, whole foods cooking, tantra, yoga, nonviolent communication, herbal medicine-making, and other sustainable cultural skills. Permaculture Design 7-Weekend CourseApril 18-20, May 17-18, June 21-22, July 19-20, August 16-17, September
13-14, and October 11-12 Take the long route to Permaculture Design certification, and engage in Earthaven’s sustainable practices from April to October. You’ll get to observe and interact with the systems that you helped to put into place. You’ll get to eat in summer and fall the vegetables you planted in the spring. And you’ll have opportunities for deep bonding with your fellow students, teachers and Earthaven itself. Because of the weekend format, the students in this course will be relatively local, which means that you will be forming sustainability networks with people in your bioregion. Expect an extensive learning experience via lecture, discussion, hands-on projects, demonstrations, videos, site visits, and student presentations. This course provides a good foundation for the 7-Weekend Permaculture Certification Course below. Urban Permaculture Design Course - 7 WeekendsThe last weekend of every month, April through October. This course will introduce you to the essential principles and practices of permaculture, an ecological design system for creating abundant regenerative human habitats at Ashevillage Institute, an emerging urban education center and living laboratory for sustainable solutions in action. AVI is located in a cluster of houses in a neighborhood a few blocks from downtown Asheville, North Carolina. Students receive a Permaculture Design certificate upon completion. The course description is the same as the 7-Weekend course at Earthaven, but is offered in an urban setting with a focus on sustainability in an urban area. The course runs the last weekend of every month from April thru October, and begins with Friday evening presentations hosted by Ashevillage Institute.
